ABOUT THE PROGRAM SPONSORS: The Interfaith Network is a network of diverse community leaders and organizations that advocates for just, human and comprehensive immigration reform. The Network is promoting NYS Congregations in Solidarity with Dreamers,” part of the national DREAM Sabbath initiative announced by DREAM Act proponent Dick Durbin in July as a way to build support for the legislation.

The NYIC is a coalition of more that 200 organizations devoted to serving immigrants through both government and civil society initiatives and to promoting immigration reform, including the DREAM Act.

San Francisco’s Horizontal Alliance of Very Organized Queers (HAVOQ) are currently on a North American tour of presentations and workshops about the relationships between/among borders, queerness, and freedom of movement. It’s built around a document they spent two years collectively writing, called “Undoing Borders: A Queer Manifesto,” which explores some of the ways sexualities and gender identities are related to how we think about borders and boundaries. “Undoing Borders” challenges staid assumptions about immigration, state repression, and queerness, and the tour is an exciting moment for anyone interested in these issues to come together to share experiences and ideas.

HAVOQ will participate in two speaking dates here in NYC as part of the tour. At 7pm on Monday, September 19 at Bluestockings Bookstore (172 Allen Street in Manhattan), HAVOQ will be joined by Ravi Ragbir of the New Sanctuary Coalition at http://newsanctuarynyc.wordpress.com, and by Lauren Melodia of Milk Not Jails in order to discuss incarceration, detention, and policing, and the way these controls structure ideas and experiences of immigration, family, and sexual identity. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=170835209658945

Tuesday, September 20, at 7:30 pm at Glitter House (16 St. Francis Place in Brooklyn) we’re having a dinner potluck with HAVOQ and other participants in the events so people can meet and talk in a more informal environment. Both of you are certainly invited if you’re interested. St. Francis Place is a north/south street that’s one block long. It’s one block east of Franklin and runs between Lincoln and St. Johns in Crown Heights.

HAVOQ will present again at 8pm, Wednesday, September 21, at the NYU Kimmel Center, room 903 (60 Washington Square South in Manhattan), with local organizer and CCNY and New School Political Science Professor Jackie Vimo, who works on issues surrounding queerness and migration. Together they will explore some of the intersecting and overlapping relationships between public space, identity, migration, prisons, police, borders, and labor. Probably many of us still remember where we were on September 11, 2001 when the planes tragically slammed into the World Trade Center in New York City. It was a moment of great shock, grief and tragedy for all.

Dios Santos amigos, it is terrible to see when man is pitted against  man generating horror, fear, terror and death of thousands of our brothers and military.

Ten years have already passed since the terrible tragedy of September 11th and it scars the people of the United States. Thousands of other similar tragedies are the product of intolerance, lack of dialogue, hate, and anger that is instilled in the hearts of those who create confrontation and violence of all kinds. All of this has marked and marks each day the lives of people and the world.

Friends, let us pray to God the Father almighty, on this important day of remembrance of this moment of hatred, pain and death that happened 10 years ago to ask for men hearts to transform. And every day and everywhere we are, to build places of life, love, peace and hope.

We witness the love of the Father who calls on us to live in love as his witnesses. Let us build together a chain of love, one that is stronger than hatred and death.

Friends, we all understand that love is the way!

NOTE:
This Sunday we will hold the 11.00 am Mass in our church 202 E 119 St, NY, NY 10035, in memory of all fallen on September 11, 2001, for their loved ones and for peace in the world. We will have a procession around the block from the church as a sign of peace and to say NO, ENOUGH TO VIOLENCE AND HATRED.

Also pray for the repose of our beloved Sister Ramonita Negron.

And a special blessing to all the students who started classes this week, for God to bless, protect and accompany you throughout this new school year. And that their parents will assist them in everything they need to grow up healthy and wise.

AMIGOS:

Probablemente muchos de nosotros aún recordamos dónde estabamos el 11 de septiembre de 2001 con la tragedia de las torres del World Trade Center en Nueva York cuando los aviones impactaron en ellas y en diferentes lugares del pais. Un momento para todos de mucha conmocion, dolor y tragedia.

Dios Santo amigos, es terrible ver cuando el hombre se enfrenta contra el hombre generando escenarios de horror, miedo, terror y la muerte de miles y milies de hermanos nuestros.

Esta terrible tragedia del 11 de septiembre que ya hace 10 anos pasaron y marcaron a este pueblo Estado Unidense, como otras miles de tragedias que han marcado y marcan cada dia a otros pueblos y al mundo, son el producto de la intolerancia, del no dialogo, de odio, el enojo que esta instalado en al Corazon del hombre generando el enfrentamiento y a la violencia de todo tipo.

Amigos, pidamos a Dios Padre todo poderoso, en esta fecha importante en la que recoradaremos este escenario de odio, dolor y muerte que sucedio ya hace 10 anos, para que los hombres transformemos nuestros corazones. Y cada dia y en todas partes en las que estemos construyamos escenarios de vida, de amor, de paz y esperanzas.

Seamos testigos del amor del Padre que nos llama a vivir en el amor como testigos suyos. Construyamos juntos una cadema de amor, mas fuerte que la del odio y de la muerte.
Amigos, todo los sabemos muy bien, el camino es el amor!!!

Este domingo realizaremos la santa misa 11,00 am en nuestra iglesia 202 E 119 St, NY-NY 10035, en memoria a todos los caidos el 11 de septiembre del 2001, por sus seres amados y por la paz en el mundo. Realizaremos una procesion al rededor de la cuadra de la iglesia como signo de paz y de decir NO , BASTA A LA VIOLENCIA Y AL ODIO.

Tambien rezaremos por el eterno descanso de la Hermana de nuestra querida Ramonita Negron.

Y una bendicion especial a todos los estudiantes que comenzaon esta semana las clases, para que Dios los bendiga, proteja y acompane en todo este nuevo ano lectivo. Y a sus padres para que los asista en todolo que necesitenpara que sus hijos puedan crecer sana y sabiamente.

On September 14th immigrant advocates around the country are coordinating a national day of action against the proposed E-Verify bill in congress.

The New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC and other immigrant groups are mobilizing to stand in front of Congressman Peter King’s office at 1003 Park Blvd, Massapequa Park, Long Island NY to protest his support for this anti-worker, anti-immigrant bill.

We need to call out those elected officials who continue to destroy our communities and families and hold them accountable for their hypocrisy and poor leadership.

The New Immigrant Community Empowerment NICE at 37-41 77th St 2nd Fl, Jackson Heights NY 11372 and the Minkwon Center for Community Action at 136-19 41st Ave 3rd Fl, Flushing NY 11355 will be holding teach-ins at their offices to educate the community on what is E-Verify, its negative effects and how we can stop it. NICE will be conducting theirs in Spanish and Minkwon will conduct theirs in Korean.

Let us stand together to stop this war on our communities.

On the morning of Friday June 17th as we fast we will march seven times for seven weeks preceded by the sounds of the Ram’s horns of victory.

We are going to be wearing white and red (Use your white ceremonial robes with red stoles if you have them). As we begin each circle we will stop and we will raise our hands and pray the same pray in unity.
